How to Use
Take Lunesta tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. It is better to take eszopiclone on an empty stomach (without food). Only take eszopiclone when you are ready for bed. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not share your medicine with anyone else.

Side effects

Precautions

  • Use care when driving, functioning machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Lunesta will cause drowsiness and may cause giddiness.   • Do not drink alcohol while taking Lunesta. Alcohol will increase drowsiness and may increase giddiness when you are having Lunesta, which could be unsafe.

Certain medications may cause additive drowsiness or decrease alertness with eszopiclone:

  • alcohol
  • allergy, cough, or cold medications (antihistamines)
  • kava kava
  • medicines for anxiety
  • medicines for pain
  • medicines for treating mental problems
  • melatonin
  • other sedatives given for sleep
  • some medicines for Parkinson' s disease or other movement disorders
  • valerian

Missed dose
Not applicable.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Storage
Store at controlled room temperature, 20-25 degrees C (68-77 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
